Part 2: Regenopause and Authenticity

Part 2: Regenopause and Authenticity

Part 2: Regenopause and Authenticity

If menopause unmasks us, then post-menopause offers the chance to step fully into who we are.

This is not decline. This is not disappearance. It is regeneration.

I call it Regenopause—a season when the ashes of old identities become compost for new growth. It is messy, unpredictable, fertile. Especially so if you live with ADHD.

The hyperfocus that once drove you to exhaustion can now be channelled into creation, writing, teaching, art. The distractibility that once shamed you reveals itself as an intuitive gift, noticing subtleties others miss. The impatience with nonsense becomes a sharp tool for discernment.

Mary Oliver’s famous question has never been more urgent:

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

At this stage, the nonsense falls away. We are no longer driven to prove ourselves. Instead, we are called to live authentically, fully, unapologetically.

A Personal Note

When I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 70s, it was like putting the last missing piece into the puzzle of my life. Suddenly, the chaos, the forgetfulness, the intensity—all of it made sense.

Menopause had stripped away my buffers, but ageing has given me perspective. Instead of trying to fix myself, I’ve chosen to embrace myself. This is who I am. This is how I was made. And that is enough.

The New Story

So here’s the truth I want you to hold close: post-menopause and ADHD are not the end. They’re a new beginning.

They demand courage, honesty and they demand we tell a new story about ourselves—one not of decline, but of awakening.

We are not broken. We are not past it. We are rising into ourselves, at last.
