A ’10 Point Survival Plan’ for when your relationship ends

I know it feels like life has thrown you a curveball, and right now, you might be feeling a mix of emotions – sadness, uncertainty, fear and worry about what the future holds. But guess what? You’re stronger than you know, and you’re not alone in this journey. I’m here to be your virtual best friend and guide you through a daily self-care routine and survival plan that will help you not only survive but thrive during this challenging time. Here are 10 tried and tested ways to help yourself.

Morning Affirmations to Set the Tone

Start your day with a positive mindset by practicing morning affirmations. Stand tall in front of the mirror and say things like, “Even though I feel scared right now, I am not my feelings. The truth is, I am strong, I am resilient, and I can create a bright future. Remember, your thoughts have the power to shape your reality, and it works, for better or worse.

Move Your Body, Boost Your Mood

Physical activity might be the last thing on your mind, but trust me, a little movement can do wonders for your mood. Whether it’s a walk in the park, a yoga session, or a dance party in your living room, get those endorphins flowing. It’s not about hitting the gym hard; it’s about honouring your body and releasing stress.

Journaling: Release and Reflect

Grab a journal and pour your heart out. Write about your feelings, your fears, and your dreams. This is your safe space to let it all out – the good, the bad, and the messy. Reflect on your progress, celebrate your victories, and remind yourself of the things you’re grateful for. Journaling can be incredibly therapeutic and provide you with a sense of clarity.

Connect with Your Support System

Reach out to your friends, family, or a therapist. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and provide a listening ear. It’s okay to lean on others during this time; in fact, it’s a sign of strength to ask for help when you need it.

Learn Something New

Distract your mind and discover a new passion or hobby. Always wanted to learn how to paint? Dive into a new book genre? Take an online course? Now’s the perfect time to invest in yourself and explore interests that bring you joy.

Create a Vision Board

Visualize your future and what you want to achieve. Gather magazines, print out images, or create a digital vision board that represents your goals and aspirations. This visual reminder will help you stay focused on the amazing life you’re building for yourself.

Practice Mindfulness and Meditation

During uncertainty, find moments of calm through mindfulness and meditation. Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, clear your mind, and be present in the moment. This practice can help alleviate anxiety and foster a sense of inner peace.

Set Achievable Goals

Break down your big goals into smaller, achievable steps. Whether it’s getting back into the workforce, finding a new place to live, or rediscovering your passions, setting manageable goals will give you a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Celebrate Your Strength

Every step you take, no matter how small, is a triumph. Celebrate your strength, resilience, and progress. Treat yourself to something special – a bubble bath, a favourited dessert, or a solo movie night. You deserve it!

End Your Day with Self-Care

Before bed, engage in a soothing bedtime routine. Whether it’s reading a book, practicing gentle stretches, or sipping a calming herbal tea, wind down and show yourself some love. Your sleep is essential for your emotional well-being.

Remember, you are not defined by your past, but rather by the incredible person you are becoming. Embrace this new chapter with hope, determination, and the knowledge that brighter days are ahead. You’ve got this, and I’m here cheering you on every step of the way.
